The dependent benefit is a monthly pension scheme given to the dependent of an insured person and is eligible to receive the amount. This benefit will be availed from the next day of the death of an insured person.

The government of India makes the following rules after the death of an insured person:

  • Widow will receive the benefit till death or until re-marriage , i.e., 3/5thof full rate.
  • If the widow is a mother then, will receive 3/5thof the total rate.
  • If the dependent is a son of the insured person then, he will receive 2/5thof the full rate till he attains the age of 25 years and is dependent.
  • If the dependent is a daughter of the insured person then, she will receive 2/5thof the full rate till her marriage.
  • At the time of the death of an insured person, if the daughter or son is fully dependent on the earnings of the insured person, will continue to receive the benefit even after attaining 25 years /marriage depending on the case.
  • The dependent parents are entitled to 3/10th each of the full rate if the insured person has no family of his own.

The share of each dependent should be proportionately reduced if the total of calculating the rate for the benefit of dependent exceeds the full rate at any time. This is necessary so that the total amount payable to all dependent does not exceed the full rate.
