Gratuity – Form L

Gratuity is a retirement benefit provided to the employee as gratitude for continuous service for at least five years. The Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972 applies to every factory, mine, plantation, oilfield, port and railway company; every shop or establishment within the meaning of any law in which ten or more persons are employed.

On verification of claims, the employer issues a notice to the employee/nominee/legal heir about the amount of gratuity payable within 15 days of the receipt of the notice. The payment should be made within 30 days of the receipt of application.

Before filling out form ‘L’, you need to refer to clause (i) of sub-rule(1) of rule 8. Some of the necessary details you need to complete are the name and address of an employee/nominee/legal heir, the amount of gratuity, etc. The amount for gratuity is sent by Postal money order at the address given on application.
