Minimum Wages in Gujarat 2024: A Comprehensive Guide

The State Government of Gujarat has recently revised the minimum wages, which will be effective from October 10th, 2023. The new minimum wage rates will apply to different zones and skill levels and cover 46 different “scheduled employments.”

What is included in the new minimum wage order?

The Labour & Employment Department of the Government of Gujarat has issued a notification regarding the revised minimum wages for various categories of workers in different zones of the state.

The new minimum wage order for Gujarat 2024 is effective from 01-10-2023 to 31-03-2024 and covers 46 businesses in Zone – I and Zone – II.

The order specifies the basic rates of salary/wages, the variable dearness allowance (VDA), and the total minimum wages per day and per month for skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled workers in each zone. Here is the definition of employment type:

Unskilled

An employee who performs simple duties that require little or no independent judgment or previous experience.

Semi Skilled

An employee who performs work of a routine nature with limited scope and where others make important decisions.

Skilled

An employee who is capable of working efficiently, exercising independent judgment, and possessing a thorough knowledge of the trade, craft, or industry in which they are an employee.

Highly Skilled

An employee who is capable of working efficiently and supervising the work of skilled employees.
