Minimum wages in Uttar Pradesh are now governed by the Code on Wages, 2019 and the Uttar Pradesh Code on Wages Rules, 2026, notified on 12 August 2026 (Notification No. 1377/XXXVI-03-2026-1901341).

These Rules replace the earlier UP Minimum Wages Rules, 1952, the UP Payment of Wages Rules, 1936 and the UP Code on Wages Rules, 2021. The government continues to revise the dearness allowance component twice a year.

These rates represent the minimum wages in UP per day and monthly equivalents for each skill category. They help employers plan payroll budgets and ensure that workers are compensated fairly according to the law.

For example, the minimum wages in UP for unskilled labour is currently ₹435.14 per day, making it easier for entry-level workers to sustain a basic living standard.

Monthly pay is calculated by multiplying the weekly rate by 4.33. For hourly wages, multiply by the average hours worked each week. The government released the revised UP minimum wage rate 2026 for jobs across different employment categories and classifications, ensuring fairness in wages.

UP Code on Wages Rules 2026: What Changed for Employers

  • Daily wage is now the base rate: hourly wage = daily rate divided by 8, monthly wage = daily rate multiplied by 26
  • Skill categories can now include Highly Skilled in addition to Unskilled, Semi-skilled and Skilled, with geography factored in
  • Working hours capped at 8 per day and 48 per week, with weekly rest provisions
  • Every employee must get a wage slip in Form IX, physical or electronic, on or before payday; wage and employee registers (Form I and II) must be kept 5 years
  • Establishments must display wage rates, working hours, wage-payment date and Inspector-cum-Facilitator details prominently

Conclusion

UP is introducing many policies to protect the rights of employees and ensure fair compensation. It has also introduced the draft Minimum Wage Rules under the Code of Wages 2020. These draft rules make the central minimum wages legally binding.

They also provide for digitization of records and payslips. However, minimum wages in Uttar Pradesh are still regulated by the Minimum Wages Rules (1952).
